Following new features for Google’s other photo apps this morning, Motion Stills is getting a major update that allows you to add text that tracks an object in a video, super-resolution videos, and automatic cinemagraphs. Announced in June and since integrated with the Google Photos app, Motion Stills uses video stabilization technology to create easily shareable GIFs and movies from Live Photos. Motion Text is a neat feature that allows you to overlay text so that it follows any moving object in a video....

The announcement was made via a post on Google Plus, and there’s also an accompanying little video. From the photos on the Project Glass site, the device looks like a thin band that sits over the user’s eye and displays information automatically or by request. Functions are voice-activated and you can see the character in the video (well, you can’t really see him, as it all looks like it’s taken from behind said glasses), checking his e-mail, getting weather information, listening to music and setting reminders among other things....

It’s hard for anyone to argue against Google Assistant being the best voice assistant at answering queries. Assistant has proven time after time that it’s superior. Recently though, one test found that the gap between Assistant, Siri, and Alexa is starting to close quite a bit. Apple’s Siri, on the other hand, answered just 74.6% of the questions correctly and understood 99.6%. Alexa, finally, understood 99% of the questions asked, answering 72....

Google announced on its official blog today that it would do some “winter cleaning” by discontinuing a number of services in the near future. Among the services shutting down as of Jan. 30 is Google Sync, which allowed users to get access to Gmail, Calendar, and Contacts using the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync protocol. As an alternative, Google recommended IMAP for mail and the recently launched CardDAV and CalDAV protocols. Google also confirmed it would continue offering the service to existing consumers and Google Apps for Business, Government, and Education customers....
