Former NSA hacker Patrick Wardle found a security breach in Microsoft Office for Mac that can lead hackers to take control of the entire Mac. Wardle was able to gain access to the computer with just a simple Office document containing malicious codes. As reported by Vice, the breach is based on the “macro” feature, which allows users to automate some tasks in Microsoft Office apps with custom commands and instructions....

Speaking in his first major interview since the formation of Alphabet, Google co-founder and now Alphabet CEO Larry Page said that both he and Steve Jobs had been right in their different approaches to running their respective companies. Steve Jobs had argued that Google was doing too many things, and should adopt Apple’s focused approach of doing a few things really well. Page said both approaches worked. Google today announced on its blog that it’s introducing an “updated ad experience” for Google Maps on iPhone, iPad, and Android that will display a small banner at the bottom of the screen when a user performs a search. Google used to display smaller banner ads that would pop up as an overlay on the map after searching for a location, but the new experience brings ads into the new bottom bar that Google introduced in its recent redesign of the Google Maps mobile apps....

Last Friday despite problems and concerns, the Chinese government in Beijing granted Google a renewal for its Internet content provider license. China is currently the world’s largest single market of Internet users due to its overwhelming population. Without the license Google would be no longer able to operate in China, so it’s a pretty big deal.
