The search giant just bought Meebo not too long ago, with the team now working on Google Plus, the company’s social network. Now, Google continues to splash cash, this time buying Sparrow, a pretty fancy mail client for Mac and iPhone. The news was announced recently on Sparrow’s website. Sparrow is an interesting email client, with features such as the use of Facebook Connect to put pictures next to the contacts emailing you, and the ability to attach files via Dropbox....

Google, according to a report out of Reuters, has agreed to settle all of its patent litigation with the Rockstar consortium, which consists of a variety of tech companies including Apple, Sony, BlackBerry and Microsoft. The Rockstar consortium paid $4.5 billion for Nortel Network Corporation’s huge patent portfolio in 2011, outbidding Google at the time. The Rockstar consortium originally sued Google and a handful of Android manufacturers in October of 2013, claiming that the companies infringed on seven Nortel patents....

Google has just started rolling out an update to the Gmail app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with a few new welcomed features. First off, users now have the ability to set a custom signature for messages as well as a vacation responder. Both of those new features will be available via the gear icon at the top of the app’s new menu. The update also includes support for nested labels and the usual “bug fixes and UI improvements”....

FOX has released the latest trailer for Gotham’s final season, which warns viewers to prepare for Jeremiah’s final act of insanity. Since its inception, the Batman prequel has kept fans guessing how the young Bruce Wayne would become the beloved Dark Knight, not to mention if a villain as iconic as the Joker would ever truly come into play. With this season’s string of movie-length trailers touting the fruition of every villain’s carelessly laid plans - culminating in the gleeful preview for February 21st’s “Ace Chemicals” - it seems those two burning questions will finally be answered....

Apple’s second retail store in Taiwan will celebrate its grand opening on June 15th at 10:00 A.M. local time. The long-awaited location in Taipei’s Xinyi District was first revealed when promotional signage was installed on the building. The store’s name — Apple Xinyi A13 — refers to its location in the district at the foot of a new Far Eastern Department Store. Today, Deirdre O’ Brien posted a video on Instagram with a fun animation and an official opening date....

Season 10 of The Great British Baking Show is chugging along. With weekly episodes released on Netflix, viewers at home and abroad can watch in nail-biting suspense as contestants fight to be the last baker standing. This year, 13 bakers compete in the tent, rising to the many challenges set by judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood like their delicious loaves rise in the oven during bread week. Some will fail and some will succeed, but all will hope for a coveted Paul Hollywood handshake to serve as affirmation that their hard work paid off....

While the Avengers are a well oiled machine due to the leadership of Captain America, the Guardians of the Galaxy have suffered from a list of arguments between its members due to hardly any of them respecting Star-Lord as their leader. It even seems as if Thor could vie for leadership in the next film. There’s a general sense of wondering as to why Gamora wasn’t the leader, seeing as she’s the opposite of who Star-Lord is, and, on paper, there doesn’t seem to be anything stopping from her being in-charge....

The teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 did an excellent job in stoking fan excitement for the cosmic Avengers sequel, the first of three Marvel Studos movies debuting in 2017. It was light on plot, but promised a movie that captures the same level of fun and weirdness of James Gunn’s original, which in 2014 pushed the Guardians of the Galaxy characters from obscurity to icons. Since that trailer and Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, most of the things we’ve learned about the film have come from the merchandising....

The leaked data was obtained after the hacker breached DH earlier this year, on March 10, 2020. At the time, DH owner Daniel Winzen told ZDNet the hacker breached his portal, stole its database, and then wiped all servers. On March 26, two weeks after the breach, DH shut down its service for good, urging users to move their sites to new dark web hosting providers. Around 7,600 websites – a third of all dark web portals – went down following DH’s shutdown....

A job application hand-written by Apple cofounder Steve Jobs in 1973 has been put up for auction. Last time it sold, it went for over $175,000 … Auctioneers Charterfields provides the background. There is no indication of either the role for which he was applying, nor the name of the company. The skills section does, however, indicate a computing company. Well, this is interesting… Google is advertising on its Google Labs page an experimental tool which aims to liberate web developers from the confines of Adobe’s Flash platform. They are calling it Swiffy (sweet) and its sole purpose is to convert Flash SWF files to HTML5. But make no mistake about it – this is about Apple’s iOS gadgets. Google itself says Swiffy lets you “reuse Flash content on devices without a Flash player (such as iPhones and iPads)”....

After sending a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google, and others questioning if the companies could be doing more to prevent increasing thefts of smartphones, State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has now scheduled a face to face meeting with the companies to discuss the issue. NYDailyNews reports Schneiderman and San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon will meet with representatives from Apple, Google, Motorola, Samsung and Microsoft at a June 13 “smartphone summit” in New York....
