KDE Connect is a Linux based project that provides the user all the features of the iOS-based AirDrop and lets the PC and the Android or Windows device communicate with each other, seamlessly. KDE Connect is available for macOS however, there is a stable port of the KDE Connect for Windows being developed by Google Summer of Code Student, Piyush Agarwal. You can download the nightly builds of the KDE Connect which seems stable and you will not face any problems or issues. You will need to extract the zip file and then install the KDE Connect on your Windows PC like any normal software you would install on your desktop.

How To Pair Android and Windows

  • Make sure that you have downloaded the Android version as well as the Windows version of the KDE Connect application on your respective devices.
  • Also, connect both the Android and Windows devices to the same WiFi network.
  • Now, open the KDE Connect application on your Android smartphone and you will straight away see the Available devices on your smartphone screen.
  • Tap on the device and Request Pairing.
  • On your PC, you will see a notification for connection, click on Accept.
  • That’s it! You have successfully connected your Android device and Windows PC using the KDE Connect.

Note that there is no official version of the KDE Connect yet, available for the Windows as well as macOS. But, this build is stable and moreover, you can perform all the tasks however, you might also face some bugs so, please neglect those.

Now, once you have connected your Android smartphone with your Windows PC then, you can almost forget about it. You will receive your Android device notifications, you can send files wirelessly to your Windows PC and vice versa. Moreover, there is no need to pair both the devices with each other again and again, as once you have done pairing the Android device with the Windows PC then, it will automatically connect to it every time if your Android or Windows PC is on the same network.

Digging deep into the configure menu, you can see various other features that you can enjoy with the KDE Connect software. You can toggle features like show battery percentage of your smartphone, ring your device, send files, share your clipboard, etc. Moreover, you can also control your desktop using your Android smartphone.
