How to Fix Windows Update/ Windows Store Update Error 0x80D05001?
Fix 1- Windows Update troubleshooter:
As mentioned above, sometimes, simple use of the utility Windows Update troubleshooter that is present in the system by default can fix your issues. Microsoft realizes the fact that there could be errors like this. So they have integrated a Windows Update troubleshooter by default in Windows.
To access and use the Windows Update troubleshooter,
press and hold the Windows + R keys, and you will see the Rundialog box. Here in the box enter “ms-settings:troubleshoot’” and hit the Enter button or click on the Ok button.
Now you are in the troubleshoot tab window in settings. From the list of options here, click on Windows Update.
The troubleshooter will get to work and start scanning for any issues in the Windows Update. If it finds a problem and also finds a response to fix it, then you will see an option “Apply the fix” in the troubleshooter window.
Click on it, and the utility will run the repair to fix the issue. After the fix is complete, restart the system and try installing the update files again. The chances are that it will install this time.
If you don’t see Apply the Fix option in the utility, or you face the installation error even after the repair is complete, then try the next fix.
Fix 2- Disabling third-party Firewalls:
Anti-viruses do protect from potential threats, but sometimes that protection can be a nuisance. That is precisely the case here. The third-party firewall of the Antivirus application blocks any sort of pop-ups from showing up on your system. This can work against you if you are trying to install a Windows Update. There have been some cases where third party files have blocked Windows Update installation as if it is also a pop-up.
To fix this, you should turn off the real-time protection of your Antivirus application. For that, open up your Antivirus and turn it off manually. This setting is available in all such applications. After turning it off, try installing your update again and see if the problem arises again. If it does, then try removing the app entirely from the system. After removing the application try again with the installation.
If neither of these brings you any results, then move on to the next fix mentioned below.
Fix 3- Disabling Proxy or VPN:
When you are connected to a network with an improperly configured proxy server or with an unrecognized or unreliable VPN server, then Windows just rejects your connection to download and install the updates. Many users have reported that merely turning off VPN or disabling proxy of their connection solved their issue with the installation of Windows files. If you are connected to a proxy server, or if you are using a VPN service, then you should disable them and later try installing the update after that. It might work out for you too.
Disabling proxy:
Press and hold the Windows + R keys, and you will see the Rundialog box. Here in the box enter “ms-settings:network-proxy” and hit the Enter button or click on the Ok button.
Now you are in the proxy tab window in settings. Scroll down and look for Manual proxy setup here and then just disable the toggle for ‘Use a Proxy server.’

- Once you have disabled it, reboot the system and see if the error shows up again when you try to install the windows update files.
Uninstalling VPN application:
Press and hold the Windows + R keys, and you will see the Rundialog box. Here in the box enter “appwiz.cpl” and hit the Enter button or click on the Ok button.
Now you are in the programs and features window, which has a list of every application on your system. Scroll and look for your VPN client application.
Once you find it, click on it and choose the option Uninstall you see on the top.
Continue with the steps and uninstall the application from your system. Then reboot the system and try installing the updates again.
If even these do not work for you, or you don’t have a proxy or VPN connected network, then try the next fix.
Resetting Windows Update/ Windows store:
If you are seeing this error not for the first time, and with every update installation and it is an issue of update component inconsistency. It can be fixed by performing a simple reset of the Windows Update or the Windows Store.
Windows update:

wsreset.exe
- Try installing the update files again and see if the same error pops up back.
If the same error code shows up again, even after doing this, then try the final fix mentioned below.
Running SFC and DISM scans:

SFC scan:
To fix this, you have to initiate an SFC scan. To do that,
Press and hold the Windows + R key and enter “cmd” in the dialog box. After that, press and hold Ctrl+Shift+Enter keys, and a command prompt window will open up. Click Yes or Allow access if a pop up shows up asking for your permission.
In the command prompt, enter the command ‘sfc/scannow’ and hit the enter button.
Wait till the process is complete at 100% and don’t close the CMD till its done. This might take some time, so just be patient and wait and don’t do anything on your PC for that while.
Now after the scan is complete, go the windows update files and try installing them again. If that fails still, then try the DISM scan.
DISM scan:
Press and hold the Windows + R key and enter “cmd” in the dialog box. After that, press and hold Ctrl+Shift+Enter keys, and a command prompt window will open up. Click Yes or Allow access if a pop up shows up asking for your permission.
In the command prompt, enter the command ‘Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth’ and hit the enter button.
Here again, wait till the scan is complete. Don’t even forcibly close the CMD window.
After the scan reaches 100%, try installing the Windows update files, and it should work this time.
