Apple TV+ shares trailers for Ghostwriter, Snoopy in Space and Helpsters to demonstrate how its lineup will also appeal to young viewers. When the service launches on November 1, Apple will have its fair share of high-profile series aimed at adults, but the tech giant isn’t wading into the streaming wars with just the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Joel Kinnaman, and Jason Momoa. It will also have Snoopy, some fluffy puppets, and a group of plucky kids with library cards.

Apple’s TV service faces an interesting challenge, as it arrives with a very competitive price point of $4.99 a month (or free for a year, for those who recently shelled out for one of Apple’s devices), and it come with the name recognition of one of the most powerful (and divisive) brands in the world. But it also lacks the shotgun-style content disbursement offered by Netflix, as well as the pre-existing IP attractiveness offered by Disney+, which arrives on streaming devices later the same month. And while that may prove an issue for some, Apple’s original content lineup isn’t as sparse as it might otherwise appear.

With content that’s sure to appeal to both adults and kids, Apple’s approach seems to be one of steady as it goes. There won’t be a ton of content available at launch (where as a good portion of Disney+’s immense back catalog is set to go digital), but it will give families something to tune into together, or for the younger members to watch on their own, before their parents settle down to watch Jason Momoa save humanity or Reese Witherspoon earnestly report the news. It’s interesting to see that although Apple is primarily going with ambitious original ideas for most of its big-budget series, the tech giant is turning to familiar characters and concepts for its kids’ content. While Ghostwriter is a reboot of the ‘90s TV show about a group of teenagers who solve crimes with the help of a ghost who communicates via the written page, Snoopy in Space is yet another offering from Charles Schulz’s Peanuts, as Charlie Brown’s beagle embarks on a mission for NASA. Both are ostensibly capitalizing on pre-exiting IP,  but both are so old that the intended audience may not even be aware of its origins, much less care.

Apple’s lineup looks as though it’s ready for the November 1 launch date, and now the only question will be how many people intend to subscribe to the new service, and how many will wait for the Apple TV+ library to grow before making a decision. At any rate, audiences (and Apple) won’t  have long to find out.
