If you’ve tried to use Google Drive today and encountered an issue with the service then you’re not alone. In fact, Google Drive was not the only Google service that appears to have gone down today for some users. If you’re wondering whether it’s all now fixed, here’s what we currently know about the situation.

Google offers plenty of services for consumers to choose from. What’s more, Google services tend to often rely on a cloud which makes them great for users to access the service whenever they want and from whatever device they want. However, cloud-based services do have their own unique issues. One of the more frustrating ones is that when the service goes down, it can go down badly – leaving lots of people without access and nothing they can do about it until the issue is resolved.

This is exactly what seems to have happened today with Google Drive although the issue appears to have also affected other Google services, including Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. A short time ago, many users took to social media to note how the various Google services had gone down. Since then, Google has acknowledged the issue and confirmed it was working on a fix but did not provide any reasons as to why the problem arose in the first place.

Is The Google Drive Issue Now Fixed?

The short answer is yes, but probably not yet for everyone. Google offers a “G Suite Status Dashboard” which lets users see the current operational state of each of its services. For example, the tool currently highlights that an issue today has affected Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides - the tool also notes what’s likely to be a related issue affecting Google Classroom as well. In addition, when clicking on any of the listed issues for more information, all of the current issues state the problem was fixed shortly after the issues were first reported. In spite of this, the Google Drive social media account on Twitter has been highly active today and is still responding to anyone asking questions about the situation. In all of the responses so far, the Google Drive account states the issue is still ongoing and that Google is continuing to work on it. Due to this, and the fact the G Suite Status Dashboard is still illuminated orange (warning of a service disruption), it is likely that Google’s various services are still down for most people.

However, that’s not to say they are down for everyone which is the main takeaway here. Some users will be unaware of the issue due to their Google Drive service working fine to begin with, others might find their service has now returned to a normal operational state, while the rest will find they still cannot access their Drive account at all. While there’s not a lot affected users can do at the moment, they can stay tuned to the G Suite Status Dashboard or the Google Drive Twitter account for further updates.
