The official Twitter account for Google Stadia has been beset by users asking about the possibility of Half-Life 3, Pokemon, and other gaming memes on the service, but the account continues to obliviously respond to the jokes. This has actually been going on for a little while now, with a number of posts dating back to late last year.

Google hasn’t been doing a very good job of communicating with users ever since the launch of its Stadia cloud gaming service. Beyond its previous (and exaggerated) claims about Stadia’s low-latency controls and other features, the company hasn’t done much to address the problems voiced by early adopters and the market at large. Google has mostly been purchasing independent developers to make games for Stadia, which underlines the company’s plans for the future of the service. However, its social media presence has been spotty at best, and people have been taking advantage of that fact.

As cited by VG247, a lot of Twitter users are tweeting at the official Google Stadia account with absurd requests for games on the service. This probably wouldn’t matter if it weren’t for the fact that the account keeps responding to them - and doing so in the most robotic way possible. For example, a user asked about the non-existent Half-Life 3 coming to Stadia, and the account replied with “Hi there, thanks for your interest! We have no news to share about Half Life 3 availability in Stadia - in the meantime, keep an eye out on our social media channels for updates and announcements!” Another example, this time about the possibility of the notoriously horrible Superman 64, can be found below.

This is the format for almost all of Stadia’s responses to fan requests on Twitter, which has only increased the amount of people trolling it. Judging by the account’s consistent replies, it’s either being run by a bot or an unfortunate human being who’s being forced to stick to a script. Other requests have included Pokemon Sword & Shield and Knack 5 - and all of them have gotten the same answer.

As funny as it is, this situation is just making Stadia look worse than it already does. Despite Google’s promise to add over 10 timed exclusives to Stadia by July of this year, it needs to communicate much better than this if it wants Stadia to be taken seriously at all. Not only does this make Google seem clueless about the video game industry, but it also makes the company sound oblivious to the culture surrounding it.
