Gossip Girl was a television series full of drama, romance, fashion and mystery, and one of the best parts of it all was the friendships. The main characters truly understood, cared about and loved one another, especially Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf, who were more like sisters.
However, it was not all smooth sailing. The gossip, the big reveals and the thrills led to numerous fights over the years, but in the end, these pals made up and got their happily ever afters. So, here are five times we envied the friendships on this show and five times we were glad to not be part of it.
Didn’t Envy: Blair Finding Out About Serena & Nate
At the beginning of the series, Blair finds out that her best friend had slept with her boyfriend. Serena also left town after this, without explaining anything or saying goodbye. Therefore, when she returned, Blair did not welcome her with open arms.
A hiccup like this within a tight-knit friend group like this is going to have repercussions. Yes, the hookup eventually led to Nate and Blair breaking up, and it caused the girls to have to work through some real trust issues. Don’t they know the girl code rules, which could have saved them a lot of trouble here?
Envied: Blair & Serena’s Photoshoot
After making up, Blair and Serena gave the world one of the most memorable moments from this show: their photoshoot around New York City! Since Blair’s mom was a fashion designer, they were able to steal some amazing clothing items and go have some fun and quality time together.
Friends love taking pictures together, and if this experience can involve fabulous fashion and beautiful backdrops, then it is even more exciting. All fans wish they had been with these two on this day.
Didn’t Envy: Blair & Serena Battling For Queen Status
The next time these two main characters really fought, they were battling it out for who was going to rule at their school, the Constance Billard School for Girls. Blair, with her bossy and bold ways, had always been in charge of their peers, but Serena knew that the most effective way to get under her skin was to turn the minions against her.
High school can be tough, but on the Upper East Side, it is a whole different game. The steps that were expected to be taken, in order to be popular or even accepted were crazy… especially when they were versus a bestie.
Envied: Their Talk About Raising One Another
An additional sweet scene came when these two characters forgave each other and realized how lucky they were to have each other. They both came from affluent families, yet they each had some issues with their parents. Therefore, during the biggest moments of their lives, they were the ones who were there for each other.
Having a friend is good. Have someone to rely on is great. And having a bestie who is more like family is the best.
Didn’t Envy: All The Gossip Girl Blasts
Serena and Blair were the stars of the show, but everyone was negatively affected by one common thing: Gossip Girl blasts. These were juicy tidbits sent in by friends and peers and exes and that were shared with the world. Everyone was hurt by this website, and it made it hard for this group to stay close.
Of course, this was no ordinary main cast, as these people would do anything for one another. And in the end, after everything, they were still connected in a special way. Since it was not always smooth sailing, though, there is no envy here!
Envied: Their Time In Paris
The premise of this television series meant there were always functions and parties and trips, and the best of them all may have been when Serena and Blair traveled to Paris together. They were at a point in their life where they just needed each other, and this is the most epic spot for girl time.
They ate delectable desserts, they shopped until they dropped, and they both soaked up an iconic city with their favorite person.
Didn’t Envy: Serena Trying To Ruin Blair’s Fairy Tale
In Paris, Blair met Louis, and she thought she was finally going to get her princess story. As fans know, this guy was not who he seemed, and the relationship was over as soon as the marriage began.
Before that reveal, though, Serena was the one who tried to put a stop to it all. She told Louis’ mom all of Blair’s secrets, she recorded Chuck and Blair’s intimate moment on the day of the wedding, and she didn’t seem happy for her bestie at all.
Envied: When They Became Roommates
Another high moment on this series came when Blair and Dorota decorated a room just for Serena. As mentioned, these two were already closer than close, and they way to take that to the next level would be to become roomies!
Every great pair of friends has dreamed of living together… especially if it involved living in a swanky spot in New York.
Didn’t Envy: Serena Finding Out About Blair & Dan
Just as Blair had to deal with finding out about Nate and Serena, Serena had to find out that Dan and Blair had a thing going on, too! This came as a shock to everyone, since Blair had always made it seem like Dan was so beneath her and since Dan had always been so annoyed by Blair.
Thankfully, they all made up and ended up with the right people, but in the middle of it all, it was scary. Yes, it was definitely not a part of the relationship that someone would be jealous of, that’s for sure.
Envied: The Happily Ever Afters
Gossip Girl showed some very not-so-pretty scenes between friends and significant others, and it showed some legendary scenes that were shared between a group that loved each other like no other. So, when it comes to the final thing that is envied here, it would be that happily ever after.
Yes, the love stories and the weddings were beautiful, but the friendships were, too! Chuck, Blair, Dan, Serena and Nate had a neat bond that allowed them to get through anything and that gave fans an amazing story. How lucky for them and us!
