David Gordon Green’s upcoming horror sequel Halloween Kills will see the return of Kyle Richards as Lindsey Wallace, the character she played in the original 1978 movie. Lindsey was one of the children in the movie, and was babysat by Laurie Strode’s friend Annie Brackett - that is, until Annie was killed by Michael Myers.
Halloween Kills is the middle entry in a planned trilogy of movies from Green, who directed last year’s Halloween and will also direct the final movie in the trilogy, Halloween Ends. Green’s trilogy is not a complete reboot of the franchise, but it does disregard the continuity of all of the Halloween movies except for the first one. Halloween 2018 focused on three generations of Strode women as the hyper-vigilant Laurie fought to protect her daughter and granddaughter from the return of Michael Myers.
The news of Richards’ return was first reported by HalloweenMovies.com, and later confirmed by Variety. Lindsey isn’t the only child character from the original Halloween who will be making a return as an adult in Halloween Kills. Tommy Doyle, the character played by Brian Andrews in the first movie and by Paul Rudd in Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers, will also be in the movie, this time played by Anthony Michael Hall. Lindsey previously returned as a teenager in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, with Leslie L. Rohland in the role, but as mentioned above the events of that movie never happened in the continuity of Green’s trilogy.
Richards is now best known for starring in the reality TV show Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, which wrapped up its ninth season earlier this summer, but she’s also had more recent acting roles in TV shows like ER and Days of Our Lives. Halloween Kills will mark the first time she’s returned to the Halloween franchise since the original movie, though she did attend the premiere of Halloween last year, reuniting with co-star Jamie Lee Curtis. Also returning from the previous movie are Judy Greer as Laurie’s daughter, Karen, and Andi Matichak as Laurie’s granddaughter, Allyson.
Halloween 2018 was generally praised by critics and also proved to be the biggest box office hit of the franchise so far, grossing more than $255 million worldwide. For many fans it’s exciting to see a continuation of the franchise that gets back to its roots; since Green’s trilogy is a sequel to the first movie, it doesn’t try to completely reinvent the story, but it also doesn’t get bogged down in the messy continuity of the previous sequels. It will be interesting to see what role Lindsey plays in the movie - and if she survives another encounter with Michael Myers.
