Anyone still playing Halo 5: Guardians can now use piping hot pepperoni pizza-themed gun skins in the game. Following news that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is coming to PC, as well as an additional confirmation that the long absent Halo: Reach will be joining the collection, fans began sending pizza to developer 343 Industries at an alarming rate. So much so that Halo’s Community Director Brian Jarrard had to begin asking people on Twitter to stop sending the team pizza, as it was becoming “logistically challenging” for the studio.
That can’t be the only item that’s been logistically challenging for 343, as Halo Infinite is probably the most anticipated exclusive arriving on Xbox platforms in the near future. A more in-depth reveal for Halo Infinite is expected to happen at E3 2019, as Microsoft has opted to embrace the insanity of the industry event in a move that shows confidence in its ability to cut through the noise of the spectacle. Before any of this happens, however, it’s clear that there are still big plans in place for existing Halo titles.
How is this happening aside from Halo: The Master Chief Collection showing up on PC? Well, despite presumably being buried under pizza at the time of this writing, 343 Industries’ staff have embraced the aforementioned pizza fiasco as an edible mantra of sorts. This has now taken a turn for the bizarre through the decision to pay homage to the excitement of fans by adding in a set of custom gun skins in Halo 5: Guardians. These skins are now available for free through the game’s Last Slice pack.
A Reddit user famously offered to buy pizza for 343 Industries should the studio announce The Master Chief Collection on PC, and when the reveal was made during an Xbox Insider episode, pizza was already present. That didn’t dissuade fans from continuing to send pizza to the studio, though, nor did it stop them from embracing pizza as the newest meme to grace the Halo community.
The future of Halo appears to be promising for Microsoft and fans alike. While this Last Slice pizza skin isn’t a game-changing add-on by any means, it does reflect 343 Industries’ ability to listen and provide for fans. This will only prove to be more valuable for the series as a whole, since it has been implied that Halo Infinite will features games as a service design practices. In those types of experiences, being able to adapt and humor a fanbase is essential. That’s why the addition of a few pizza gun skins for a game that first released in 2015 warrants an entire news post like this in the first place.
