The Harry Potter phenomenon will live on to be one of the greatest stories in the fantasy genre. Its fandom is on par with long-standing classics such as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, and the wizarding world group only seems to get bigger as time goes on.
A decent portion of these passionate fans are cosplayers, who enjoy wearing costumes inspired by their favorite Potter characters. Some of these cosplays look like they were plucked right from the Warner Brothers’ costuming department. And then there are some costumes that combine thee wizarding world characters with other popular fandoms.
Whether it’s the makeup, the wig styling, or the costume as a whole, there is so much Harry Potter cosplay talent on the internet. To bring you into just a small portion of this magical universe, take a look at these ten delightful Harry Potter cosplays!
Professor Trelawney
Art by Mazz is a renowned makeup artist who has been featured by many entertainment publications. Every October, she garners more followers through her mind-blowing character recreations. Some of her most recognizable work comes from popular films such as Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and of course, Harry Potter.
Right before Universal Studio’s Celebration of Harry Potter in 2018, Brenna Mazzoni threw together this cosplay of Professor Trelawney. That weekend, her incredible work even earned her a spot in the top 25 for Universal’s costume contest!
But how she was able to make herself look exactly like Trelawney (Emma Thompson) is still a mystery.
Professor McGonagall
It’s pretty easy to find Harry Potter costumes to purchase on the internet nowadays. However, Lunar Rose is a gifted costume maker and art historian, which is why she made her own Professor McGonagall cosplay.
That’s right; this gorgeous emerald green dress is 100% handmade. This cosplayer’s account features historically accurate costumes, all of which all appear to be flawless. Each one (including her McGonagall dress) is plastered with incredible attention to detail that can only be the work of a professional seamstress. We can’t wait to see what she comes out with next!
Professor Dumbledore
Not a lot of people pay close attention to the intricacies of Dumbledore’s costumes in the films. Both Michael Gambon and Richard Harris wore slightly different costumes, but overall, the Hogwarts headmaster’s robes were playfully thought out.
This UK-based cosplayer clearly saw the potential in recreating Professor Dumbledore’s facade. His cosplay has extremely fine stitching that is reminiscent of the light-colored robes worn by Gambon in the films. This cosplayer is a natural, and he captures the spirit of Dumbledore quite effortlessly.
Snape
Snape’s costume in the films may seem easy to replicate, but there’s a lot more to this character than black robes and greasy hair. This cosplayer, known as Texas Snape, probably understands this. His Snape cosplay is so spot-on that he even has the poses down to an art.
Occasionally TX Snape will switch it up and include a prop such as his Advanced Potion Making book. On rare occasions, you may even spot him at a local convention dressed as Neville’s boggart: Snape dressed in his grandmother’s clothes!
Draco Malfoy
Tom Felton became a teenage heartthrob through his early depictions as the rebellious Draco Malfoy. JK Rowling even expressed some good-natured disappointment at how well-received his character was in the films. However, there’s no denying that Draco is a beautifully written character.
Cosplayer Amanda a.k.a @akrcos must feel the same. Amanda has worn Draco with both long and short hair, both of which give him a more glamorous perception. She’s also cosplayed as Hermione, young Snape, and Harry Potter. Each one of her Harry Potter cosplays is met with applause by her large fan base.
Bellatrix Lestrange
Can we just stop and take a minute to appreciate this stunning Bellatrix Lestrange cosplay? When Amanda (Witchy Brew) released a set of Bellatrix photos, the internet went crazy for them. It’s easy to see why. Not only is she a dead-ringer for Helena Bonham Carter, but the dress, makeup, and wig are all executed beautifully for this cosplay. Amanda is also a Slytherin, which makes her cosplay all the more believable!
Amanda has cosplayed from a variety of fandoms, which is why her page is so enjoyable to follow. You can spot her as Rogue, Rapunzel, and Zelda from Breath of the Wild.
Luna Lovegood
Luna is a fun character to cosplay. Her wardrobe is consistently eccentric, which means there are a ton of ways to add details within the costume. This Luna Lovegood cosplay includes plenty of accessories, including an armful of Quibblers and her wand.
The cosplayer in this photo is Linda, a party princess from the Netherlands. She’s even a bonafide Ravenclaw! All of Linda’s cosplays are beautifully put together. You can see for yourself on her page. We recommend checking out her Disney princess collection and her Stella cosplay!
Hermione Granger
No, that’s not a still of Emma Watson as Hermione Granger. Megan Flockhart has been recognized as an Emma Watson look-a-like for several years now. However, despite her uncanny resemblance, Megan’s love for the character dives a lot deeper. Like most, Hermione (and Watson) has been an inspiration to her since she was young. Megan said in an interview,
“When I was younger, she inspired me to always take my education seriously and to always be my unapologetic self.”
Megan also does an incredible job at cosplaying characters such as Sabrina (from the Netflix show), Bella from Twilight, and even Regina George from Mean Girls. While you’re on her page, you might as well check out her Tik Tok videos because they are hilariously well done!
Ron Weasley
Can you believe this transformation? Anya Vonti’s (@grange_air) Ron Weasley cosplay is actually her very first male makeup test. Anya has been admired in the past for her Hermione cosplays, but she’s proven that she can transform into every member of the Golden Trio (you should see her Harry cosplay).
On top of being an actual wizard, Anya is a talented cosplayer who has also worn Captain Marvel, Anna (Frozen), and Sabrina costumes.
Harry Potter
Then we have this bloody brilliant makeup job! Aubrey is a cosplayer from Utah. She’s proven her skills time and time again, but her makeup transformations as Harry, Ron, and Hermione really show what an artist she is.
Aubrey is also a gamer and a writer on top of being a skilled cosplayer. Be sure to take a look at her Yennefer and Saber recreations!
