Hermione and Ron are one of the main couples from the Harry Potter series. They are definitely one of the few couples that are built up rather consistently as the books go along, and they go from being childhood friends to having crushes on one another and to getting married in the epilogue.

There’s no denying that these two care a lot about each other, even if they didn’t always get along and often butted heads. However, there were many things they did for one another that were kind, heroic, or helpful. Here are the five best things that Hermione did for Ron, and the five best things that he did for her.

RON DID: HELPING GROUND HER IN TOUGH SITUATIONS

Hermione is an extremely smart person; she’s not only good at magic, but she’s also all-around intelligent and also good at logic. But, in some situations, she can get a bit overwhelmed and have a hard time remembering her skills.

Ron is often good at grounding her in these moments and reminding her that she can get out of tough situations using magic. One of the best examples of this is in the book when he reminds her to use magic to fight the Devil’s Snare.

HERMIONE DID: HELPING HIM WITH SCHOOLWORK

Ron is probably the laziest of the three members of the main trio, although Harry isn’t always great at getting his homework done either.

While it wasn’t always kind of Ron to ask her for help or to copy her homework, it was rather nice of her to help him out. She would often offer to look over his homework or give him answers to questions he had about assignments. She rarely just let him straight up copy her, though, which is also good because otherwise, he would have tried to get out of a lot of work.

RON DID: STANDING UP FOR HER WHEN SNAPE MOCKED HER

Now, this moment only applies in the book version of Harry Potter because the movies totally changed up how this moment went. In the books, when Snape calls Hermione an insufferable know-it-all, Ron passionately defends her.

Even though he himself calls her that sometimes, the way Snape did it was out of line. Ron stands up for her and gets detention for it, but it’s clear that he has her back.

HERMIONE DID: HELPING HIM BECOME GRYFFINDOR’s SEEKER

Hermione cares a lot about Ron even if their personalities tended to clash often. When he tries out for the position of Gryffindor’s Seeker, he’s really nervous about it and thinks he’s going to do awful.

His nerves get the better of him, and Cormac McLaggen actually would have beaten him. However, Hermione uses a Confundus charm to jinx him. While this isn’t exactly ethical, it does show that Hermione has Ron’s back and his best interests at heart.

RON DID: DEFENDING HER WHEN SHE WAS CALLED A MUDBLOOD

In the Harry Potter world, mudblood is considered one of the worst slurs you can call a person who was born to Muggle parents. Of course, Malfoy takes the opportunity to call her this whenever he can.

The first time he does it, Ron attacks him. While Ron ended up getting cursed by his own defective wand the first time this happened, he jumped quickly to Hermione’s defense.

HERMIONE DID: CHALLENGING RON WHEN HE’S A JERK

The truth is that Ron could be a rather insensitive person at times. He wasn’t always very tactful, and he could be a bit too blunt. There were a variety of times where he got mad at Hermione and took his emotions out on her.

While this is definitely frustrating, Hermione was usually good at standing her ground. She never let Ron take advantage of her and would call him out. This was really good for Ron because he needed someone who would push back against his worst tendencies.

RON DID: FINALLY SUPPORTING S.P.E.W.

Ron wasn’t always the most supportive friend to Hermione. When she starts the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare (S.P.E.W.) to try and campaign for the rights of house-elves, he doesn’t want to be a part of it but goes along just to get her off his back.

However, he finally starts to see the importance of what Hermione has been telling him all along, and he starts being a lot more caring of house-elves and looking out for them.

HERMIONE DID: PROVIDING A LOT OF MORAL SUPPORT

Hermione might have gotten on Ron’s nerves at times, but she was there for him in many ways. She was often encouraging him and supporting him whether it came to his schoolwork or trying to give him more confidence when it came to playing Quidditch.

Her support and friendship were definitely strong, and Ron needed someone like this in his corner even if he didn’t always realize how much she cared about him.

RON DID: HELPING RESCUE HER FROM THE TROLL

One of the first great things that Ron does for Hermione happens before they even become friends. Both Ron and Harry risked their lives to rescue Hermione from the troll when it gets into the girl’s bathroom.

To be fair, Ron had been making fun of her earlier that day, which is why she was in the bathroom in the first place. Yet, the fact that he and Harry were willing to get in trouble or even die to save her says a lot about who they are as people.

HERMIONE DID: FORGIVING HIM AFTER HE DITCHED HER AND HARRY IN DEATHLY HALLOWS

One of the worst things Ron ever does in the series is leaving Harry and Hermione while they are all searching for the Horcruxes. While the locket Horcrux was impacting him, it doesn’t change how horrible his departure was for his friends.

Hermione particularly struggled with his abandonment, so, when he came back, she didn’t just accept him with open arms. However, with time, she forgave him with this and offered him a lot of understanding.
