Dozens of studies have repeatedly shown that women, and especially female journalists, receive waves of threats and harassment online. Google’s Jigsaw unit and the Economist Intelligence Unit released a study that showed that 70% of female journalists receive threats and harassment online, and more than 40% of those female journalists stopped reporting a story as a result....

Google has updated its mapping app for iOS with a redesigned transit view that includes real-time information about your arrival time that previously debuted on Android. The new app also provides additional choices for alternate routes. The update also gives you new options for sharing your maps with other users, specifically noting that Facebook and its separate Messenger app are both supported now. A gird view of photos has been added for locations, too....

It seems Apple isn’t going to be alone in offering a better deal to developers of subscription-based apps. The same day Phil Schiller revealed that developers will receive 85% of subscription revenue from year two, Re/code reports (and TNW confirms) that Google will be offering the same deal to Android developers – but with one big difference … It’s not yet known when Google will introduce the new revenue split, but it is reported to have already tested it with some entertainment companies....

Google is now adding OSS-Fuzz to the pool of answers to the internet-wide Log4j flaw, also known as Log4Shell. The bug is tracked as CVE 2021-44228 and was partially fixed in Apache Foundation’s release of Log4j version 2.15.0 last week. OSS-Fuzz is Google’s free service for fuzzing open-source software projects and is currently used by over 500 critical projects. Fuzzing involves throwing random code at software to produce an error, like a crash, and uncover potential security flaws....
